In the past decade, human trafficking has become prevalent in Portland. What many don’t realize, according to TMT Development President and CEO Vanessa Sturgeon, is that the issue is often right under our nose.
Sturgeon says the homeless population is particularly vulnerable to trafficking. “Many of the people that you see panhandling are not panhandling for their own benefit. It is part of Portland’s very deep human trafficking issues,” Sturgeon says.
